Academic degree of Master
It is the recognition of the educational training granted to a person, who previously has a bachelor's degree, by the University, having carried out studies and research in the respective specialty and met the requirements established by Law. The University granted through the Superior Council Agreement.
Requirements
To present the original of the Thesis or Research Work:
- Pass Master's studies with a minimum content of (48) credits.
- Prove mastery of a foreign language or native language.
- Have paid in full the academic rights corresponding to master's studies and to obtain the Master's Degree.
- Hold the Bachelor's Degree required by Law.
To request the issuance of the Master's Degree:
- Have an Agreement from the Higher Council to obtain the corresponding Degree.
- Present the issuance request respective.
Documentation
The student must define whether they will carry out a Thesis (Individual) or a Research Project (group).
A. Definitions
Thesis
Modality for obtaining an academic degree or professional title that requires in-depth research and an original and unpublished analysis, around a specific academic area. It involves public support before the academic community in general and the approval of a jury that evaluates it. Since this modality serves to obtain the professional title, second professional specialty, academic degree of master and doctor; Its rigor and demand will vary depending on the professional title or academic degree that you want to obtain.
Thesis per article
In the case of having presented a Scientific Article, this is included as the Results chapter in the structure of a traditional thesis. The scientific article is inserted in the original format presented and published in a prestigious conference or indexed journal. The size of the scientific article depends on each conference or indexed journal. Includes notes, tables, graphs and bibliography
Research work
Modality of obtaining an academic degree through a document that contains rigorous and objective research around a certain field of study. It can be individual or group, it is public and subject to debate. Since this modality serves to obtain the academic degree of bachelor and teacher; Its rigor and demand will vary depending on the academic degree you want to obtain.
Research work per article

Thesis or research work advisor
He is the professor responsible for advising and directing the student in the study of the chosen thesis topic and in the development of work to obtain the degree of Master and/or Doctor. It may be more than one as deemed appropriate.
Examining jury
It is the plural body made up of a minimum of three people, which will be in charge of evaluating the student of the respective program to obtain the academic degree. The president of the examining jury will be the most senior doctor among the three that make up the jury. The least senior doctor professor will serve as Secretary. In the case of a master's thesis, in the absence of doctors, the choice will be made among the master professors.
In all support procedures, the president gives the floor in order of seniority in the doctorate: from least to greatest seniority. In the absence of doctors, the same criterion applies to master professors.
In all cases, seniority in the degree of doctor or, where appropriate, teacher, gives way to the status of authority (rector, dean or similar).
Diploma
It is the document with which the academic degree and/or professional title is accredited, it is authorized by the Superior Council of the University. It must be issued in accordance with the provisions of the University Law and current regulations, and be signed by the corresponding authorities.
Metadata
Standardized information that defines and describes each digital document and work leading to a degree and title, facilitating its search and access. This corresponds to the description of the aforementioned work in terms of its author/creator, title, keywords or subject headings, among others; and physical attributes, such as media or formats and dimensions.
B. Thesis Plan or Research Work

- Thesis Plan or Research Work, is submitted to the Graduate Office, must await approval. See Thesis Plan or Research Work Criteria.
- Application for approval of the Thesis Plan or Research Work. For works that can be developed in groups, the submission of a joint application is accepted.
- If there are observations from the Jury, the student must present a new Modified Plan Approval Request.
- If the work involves the study of human beings, the student must present the following documents: Ethics Committee Formats.

- With the approval of the Plan by the Jury designated by the Master's Directorate and the Ethics Committee, the decision is formally communicated to the student or graduate, indicating that the master is fit to develop his or her thesis or research work.
- The student may abandon the thesis project or research work that has been approved, and request the admission of a new topic. The beginning of the deadline for the presentation of the thesis or research work will be the admission of the first definitive thesis or research work project, and not the approval of the new topic.
- The maximum time for the preparation and presentation of the thesis or research work will be determined by the faculty, which may not exceed three years.
C. Thesis Presentation
The graduate must present the following documents to start the process:
- The thesis or research work (digital) in Word and PDF (the PDF document has the UDEP shield as a watermark) for first review by the jury. The thesis must follow the standards already established by the Faculty according to the Normativa de estilo Facultad de Ingeniería. Revisar guía and plantilla del Trabajo Final de Grado.
- The advisor's report.
- In the same application, both authors of the thesis must present the Application for review, date of support and granting of degree.
- Proof of non-debt provided by the Billing and Collections Office:

In the email, indicate program, years of study, full name and ID. - Cada autor de la tesis debe presentar copia del recibo de pago del derecho académico correspondiente. Ver Cuenta y Derecho Grado de Máster.
Once the members of the Jury have been appointed and the thesis or research work has been reviewed, they will send a memorandum to the Academic Secretariat indicating whether the work is approved or with observations and the authors will be informed.
If there are observations, the thesis student must resubmit the corrected thesis for a new review, with a new report from the advisor (this process is repeated until the jury members approve the thesis).
Format review
Once the thesis has been approved by the jury, the Thesis format is reviewed by the Graduate Office, which informs the thesis student that their work is approved or with observations.

D. Support of the thesis or research work
Once the thesis or research work has been approved (content and format), and before support, each author must send the following information:
- Fill out the following sheets:
✓ Academic Secretariat Personal File
✓ General Secretariat Personal File - One (1) passport size photograph (4 cm high x 3.50 cm wide), in color, with a white background, from the front and in JPG format. This requirement is established by the Directorate of Documentation and University Information and Registry of Degrees and Titles of the National Superintendency of Higher University Education (SUNEDU). As mentioned in Directorial Resolution No. 0032-2023-sunedu-02-15, the inclusion of the photograph in the diploma is mandatory.
- Clear copy of the DNI (both sides of the DNI on the same side of the page).
- Affidavit of originality.
- The sheet of Authorization for open access publication in the PIRHUA institutional repository correctly completed and signed by the author, expressing agreement with its presentation in the PIRHUA institutional repository. If the final work was prepared as a group, each author must sign a separate authorization. These files must be duly authorized by the faculty secretary.
For the following information, a single submission is enough, the author or, in the case of group preparation, the coordinating author:
- Information sheet for the thesis or research work in Spanish and English, with a maximum of 500 words (in Word and PDF format).
- The complete originality report signed by the author(s) and the advisor (Complete Turnitin Report).

NOTE:
According to the agreement of the Superior Council, the requirement for physical delivery of the Final Degree Project - TFG is eliminated for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs of the University of Piura.
You are informed that, to parade at the Opening Ceremony of the academic year, the thesis must be supported no later than March 30.
