Digital Transformation of the Agro-Industrial sector applied to Organic Bananas

Description

Organic bananas are currently a product that provides significant benefits to the Piura region's economy. However, substantial production losses are also recorded due to pests. Therefore, the project "Digital Transformation of the Agro-industrial Sector Applied to Organic Bananas" aims to develop a set of accessible, low-cost, and low-power Internet of Things (IoT) applications to monitor the most important variables affecting the normal development of banana plantations. This system consists of a network of affordable sensors installed by UDEP (University of Piura) on an experimental plot belonging to the Association of Banana and Cocoa Producers (ASPROBO) in Buenos Aires, Morropón, Piura. This information is sent to the cloud in real time via appropriate hardware. Additionally, the project includes the continuous collection of data on the activities carried out in the field by farmers. This data is then processed using artificial intelligence algorithms such as machine learning and deep learning, among others. Data processing is carried out to design and develop mathematical models - predictive models - that can favor better pest control management, optimizing the use of inputs and increasing production, all this seeking the benefit of the small and medium-sized farmers of the Region.
