The degree to be awarded will be: Bachelor of Education. 

A. Requirements and modalities

To obtain the professional title, the graduate must meet the following requirements:

  1. Hold a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Piura.
  2. Having successfully completed one of the graduation options: Thesis or Professional Sufficiency Work (TSP).
  3. Accredit/certify the required level of English language proficiency (only applies to graduates with the curriculum 2002).
    Intermediate level I required for the following academic programs:
    Early Childhood Education Level.
    Primary Education Level.
    Secondary Education Level. Specialization: History and Social Sciences.
    Secondary Education Level. Specialization: Language and Literature.
    Secondary Education Level. Specialization: Mathematics and Physics.
    For the specialty of English language, The language requirement is the FCE international exam approved.

B. Thesis-based graduation process

1. Appointment of advisor

To complete the forms (Model 1), you must consider the list of topics published in Section D.

  • The graduate will receive an email from the academic vice dean in response to their request for advisor appointment.

According to the reported response:

  • If the application is approved, You will be informed of the designated advisor and the necessary contact information.
  • If the application It is not approved., You must submit a new application that takes into account the observations indicated.

Note: The deadline for submitting the thesis plan, starting from the date of notification of the advisor appointment, is six months. If this deadline is exceeded without justification, your advisor appointment will automatically expire, and you will have to submit a new advisor appointment request.

2. Approval of the thesis plan for obtaining the professional title

According to the notified response:

  • PLAN APPROVED. He is ready to complete his thesis within a period of no more than two years. This period may be extended upon a duly justified request, previously approved by the advisor. The extension must not exceed one year.
  • PLAN NOT APPROVED AND HAS OBSERVATIONS. You must submit a new application, attaching the new plan with the observations made and the advisor's approval report.

Modification of the registered thesis plan:

  • The graduating student must send it to the academic secretariat (maria.calopina@udep.edu.pe) an email with your Application for modification of registered thesis plan, Please attach the new thesis plan and the advisor's approval report.
  • The Academic Secretariat will forward this request to the Academic Vice-Dean's Office. Once approved, the change will be registered, rendering the previous plan null and void, and the thesis student will be notified via email.

3. Thesis Approval

  • The graduating student will send it to the Academic Secretariat via email (maria.calopina@udep.edu.pe) with a copy to your advisor, the Thesis Review Request, the approved final work and the advisor's approval report.
  • The graduate will receive an email from the Academic Secretariat in response to their request with the result of this evaluation.

According to the reported response:

  • THESIS APPROVED FOR DEFENSE PURPOSES. The graduating student may proceed with the submission of the final work file (detailed in section F) to the Dean's Secretariat (zaida.pacherres@udep.edu.pe) with a copy to your advisor, within the established deadlines.
  • THESIS NOT APPROVED AND HAS OBSERVATIONS. You must submit it to the academic secretariat (maria.calopina@udep.edu.pe) with a copy to the advisor (a new one) thesis review request, Attach the thesis with the observations made and the corresponding report signed by the advisor. This process is repeated until the response is APPROVED FOR DEFENSE PURPOSES.

4. Supporting the thesis

  • The thesis defense is oral and public, in the presence of a jury that determines the grade it deserves.
  • The defense will take place on the day, time, and location scheduled by the Academic Secretariat. Exceptionally, the defense may be virtual.
  • Upon completion of the academic ceremony and having obtained a passing grade, the graduate, as previously instructed by the Academic Secretariat, must send their [document/certificate/certificate] by mail. application for the granting of the professional title.

Extension of the deadline for the development of the thesis:

  • The thesis student must send it by email to the Academic Secretariat(maria.calopina@udep.edu.pe) your request for an extension of the thesis development deadline, duly justified, accompanied by an approval report from your advisor. The Academic Secretariat will forward the request to the Academic Vice-Dean's Office; once approved, the change is registered and the thesis student is informed via email.

E. Suspension periods for the graduation process

Two suspension periods are considered per year:

  • Semester I: The last two weeks of July until the first week of August.
  • Semester II: From the last week of November until January 2nd.

During these suspension periods, no review requests, degree files, defense procedures, among others will be received.

F. Submission of the final project file

The following documentation must be submitted to the Dean's Office (zaida.pacherres@udep.edu.pe), when indicated, after the thesis has been approved by the corresponding jury.

  1. Authorization to publish the work in the PIRHUA repository

  2. Copy of the receipt for payment of the corresponding academic fee (Right to Professional Title before the bank)
  3. Sworn statement of originality
