Currently, family businesses play a fundamental role in the Peruvian economy, representing approximately 801% of all businesses, generating around 651% of jobs (CCL, 2025), and contributing approximately 401% of the national GDP (IDB, 2025). However, they face significant challenges to ensure their long-term sustainability, as only 201% of these businesses manage to pass to the second generation, and only 101% reach the third (AEF, 2024).
At the University of Piura, aware of this reality and with more than 50 years of experience supporting entrepreneurs, through our Center for Family Businesses and Family Companies (CFE) and affiliated with the STEP Project Global Consortium (SPGC), we present the Family Business Challenges Program, This program is designed to support leaders of family businesses in their professionalization and generational continuity. It is built on a solid academic and research foundation thanks to our affiliation since 2013 with the SPGC, the international research consortium on family business issues, with 49 affiliated universities across five continents. The program is aimed at entrepreneurs, managers, and members of business families seeking a theoretical framework, concrete tools, and practical methodologies to address the challenges inherent in these types of organizations.
Through the analysis of real cases, the exchange of experiences and personalized support, participants will be able to organize and design strategies to improve the management, governance and continuity of their companies and strengthen their development from generation to generation.
At the end, each student will receive a Certificate of Participation in the Program from UDEP, which will strengthen their profile as a leader committed to the future of their organization.
The University of Piura reserves the right to postpone, reschedule or cancel the program if the minimum number of participants is not met.
