Benefits of the agreement

Recently, the University of Piura (UDEP) established an agreement with George Mason University (GMU). This agreement allows students who have successfully completed all required courses up to the fifth cycle in the Economics academic program, they can transfer to George Mason University to complete his studies.

At GMU, UDEP students can obtain the degree of Bachelor of Sciences in Economics and a minimum discount of US$6,000 on the annual cost of your studies. In addition, they can access the following benefits:

  • Stay in USA until 36 months after completing his studies at GMU, following the Optional Program Training (OPT).
  • Eligible for the Accelerated Master Programs (MA in Economics).
  • Students with the best academic performance can apply for the scholarship Mason Merit Award which grants a discount of US$10,000 on the annual cost of studies-

Application requirements

  • Have completed successfully the courses in the curriculum of the Academic Program of Economics up to the fifth cycle.
  • Cumulative index equal to or greater than 12.5 at the time of application.
  • Have one of these three proofs of English proficiency: TOEFL greater than 80 and 18 in each subsection, IELTS higher than 6.5 and 6.0 in each subsection or Duolingo greater than 110.
  • Not having no serious disciplinary sanction during his studies at UDEP.
  • Have no outstanding debts with UDEP.

Application Process

  • Send an email to the Head of the Economics academic program to request certification that you meet the established requirements.

  • The application to be transferred to the GMU is made through your official website. Access it through the following link.
  • Required documents:
    • Official certificate (in English) of grades obtained at UDEP, for all courses from the first to the fifth cycle.
    • Proof of English proficiency. See requirements., here.
    • Letter of recommendation in English (optional).
  • Once you have completed the online application, inform the Economics Program at UDEP.
  • GMU will evaluate your application. If accepted, you will receive an email confirming your admission and detailing the enrollment process and relevant information for your visa application.
  • Once you obtain the appropriate visa, you will be able to enroll at GMU and begin your studies at this university.

Students wishing to begin their studies at GMU in August must submit their application before April 1st.
Those wishing to begin their studies at GMU in January must apply by October 1st (of the previous year).

An international baccalaureate is not required to access the agreement.

With your fifth-semester enrollment document and official transcript up to the fourth semester, you can begin the GMU application process. Upon successful completion of the fifth semester, you must update your transcript up to the fifth semester of studies.

After your fifth semester at UDEP, and thanks to the agreement with GMU, you will have 3 semesters left to obtain your Bachelor of Science in Economics at GMU. If you optionally choose to minor in Finance, you will have 4 semesters left.

The annual cost of studies at GMU is approximately US$$ 38,000 https://www.gmu.edu/admissions-aid/cost-aid/attendance. The agreement allows UDEP students to receive a discount of US$$ 6000.
UDEP students with outstanding performance can apply for a scholarship of US$$ 10,000 towards the cost of studies.

This agreement allows your Economics studies at UDEP to be credited towards GMU. To transfer, you must complete the courses corresponding to the first five semesters of the 2020 Economics program curriculum.

Yes, but you must still meet all the required criteria. Please note that once your transfer to GMU is confirmed, you will become a UDEP alumnus and will no longer be eligible for a Pronabec scholarship. Furthermore, you should consult with Pronabec about the implications of transferring to a foreign university.

No. If you have successfully completed the courses corresponding to the first five cycles of the curriculum of the Economics program at UDEP, you can apply.

As long as you are a UDEP student, have successfully completed the courses from the 1st to the 5th cycle of the Economics program curriculum and have met the stated requirements, you can apply.

No. This agreement is exclusively for regular UDEP students.

Students accepted for transfer to GMU must notify the academic program and contact the Academic Secretariat to request their voluntary withdrawal, thereby obtaining alumni status. Alternatively, they may request a registration reservation that can be renewed for up to 6 semesters (currently costing S/ 200).

Students who transfer are expected to successfully complete their degree at GMU. After transferring to GMU, you will have the status of a UDEP alumnus. If, due to an emergency, you must leave GMU and return to Peru to complete your studies, you may request exceptional readmission to the Economics program, which will be evaluated, or you may use your reserved enrollment.

Once you are admitted to GMU, the university will guide you through the process of obtaining your student visa from the US Embassy. The student must apply directly.

You will obtain the title of Bachelor of Science in Economics.

You can stay in the USA for up to thirty-six months after completing your studies at GMU by doing your Optional Program Training (OPT).
