The Economics Program at the University of Piura (UDEP) develops professionals with a strong foundation in economic analysis, integrating theory, quantitative methods, and technological tools. In the context of a transformation driven by artificial intelligence (AI) in information analysis, decision-making, and the design of competitive strategies, the country faces significant economic and social challenges. The recent slowdown in economic growth hinders poverty reduction, while informal employment restricts access to quality jobs. Additionally, the provision of essential public services is compromised, and the distrust generated by corruption undermines stability and long-term planning. The rise in crime and extortion adds another layer of complexity to daily life.

However, despite this situation, Peru has considerable potential. Within this framework, artificial intelligence is emerging as a tool of increasing applicability, optimizing everything from medical diagnoses to production processes and the fight against crime in various key sectors.
Aware of this technological revolution, the Economics Program at UDEP, in collaboration with Virginia Tech, presents the Summer School on AI. This intensive program is designed for young students interested in applied economics and emerging technologies, seeking to introduce tools, concepts, and practical applications of artificial intelligence to economic analysis as a driver of economic growth and improvements in economic well-being.
