English or other foreign or native language requirement

I. WAYS TO ACCREDIT THE LANGUAGE LEVEL

 

The graduate has four ways to accredit the required language level:

  • Validation exam at the Language Center of the University of Piura.
  • Course approved at the Language Center of the University of Piura.
  • Presentation of international certificates or certificates from other centers recognized by the Language Center of the University of Piura.
  • Presentation of the International Baccalaureate Certificate.

II. LANGUAGE LEVEL

  • For graduates from 2015 onwards: Upper I Level (English) or its equivalent in another language, which must be validated by the Language Center of the University of Piura.
  • For graduates until 2014: Intermediate Level II (English) or its equivalent in another language, which must be validated by the Language Center of the University of Piura.

Students who have passed their undergraduate studies during the years 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 (including the 2023-II cycle) are exempt from the language requirement to obtain the Bachelor's degree under Law No. 31359. Said Exemption does not apply to the requirement to obtain the Law Degree in the 1999 and 2009 study plans.

Pre-professional internship requirement

Pre-professional practices must be accredited through the Procedure for Pre-Professional Practices of the Faculty of Law.

  • Study Plans 1999 and 2009:
    Requirement for Lawyer degree: six months of pre-professional internships in institutions recognized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Piura or one year in the Graduate Civil Service (SECIGRA) program.
  • 2018 Study Plan:
    Requirement for Bachelor's Degree in Law: six months of pre-professional internships in institutions recognized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Piura or one year in the Graduate Civil Service (SECIGRA) program.

Students of the 2018 Study Plan who have approved their undergraduate studies until the year 2023 (including the 2023-II cycle), are exempt from the requirement of pre-professional practices to obtain the Bachelor's degree under Law No. 31359. .

Provisions on the Final Degree Project (Thesis or Professional Sufficiency Work)

In everything not provided for by the following provisions, the Regulations for Degrees and Titles of the Faculty of Law – Undergraduate are applicable.

The Final Degree Project (TFG) to opt for the Law Degree may consist of a thesis or a work of professional proficiency.

 

1. Thesis.

 

It's a research work around a specific academic area or discipline that measures the student's knowledge and skills with the purpose of obtaining the professional title of Lawyer.

 

The thesis must be supported in a public event, orally and before an examining jury.

 

The thesis may be carried out individually or in groups. In the latter case, the co-authors There can be no more than three people..

 

2. Professional Sufficiency Work (TSP)

 

It consists of the development of a monographic work related to tasks specific to the Law career. in the same legal branch, carried out in one or more work centers recognized by the Faculty within the two years counted from obtaining the Bachelor's degree in Law. The experience must be accredited with the corresponding certificates.

 

The work resolves a specific legal problem faced during the graduate's work experience, in order to measure their professional efficiency and the correct application of the acquired knowledge.

 

Professional sufficiency work can only be carried out individually. Furthermore, it must be supported in a public act, orally and before an examining jury.

The advisor is appointed by the Directorate of Studies of the Faculty of Law, at the request of the graduate. You must hold at least a Master's or Master's degree.

 

For the development and presentation of the final work for its subsequent support, it is a necessary requirement that the graduate's work plan be registered in the corresponding Registry of Final Works.

 

For the appointment of an advisor and the registration of the work plan, the following must be submitted:

 

  1. Application for appointment of advisor and registration of work plan, which must bear the signature of the proposed advisor (Download format)
  2. Workplan (Download format)
  3. Affidavit of authenticity of work in progress (Download format)

 

And, if applicable, also attach:

 

  1. In the case of Professional Proficiency Work: certificates that accredit minimum work experience of 2 years, in the same legal branch, since obtaining the Bachelor's degree in Law.
  2. If an advisor from another university is proposed: Curriculum vitae of the advisor and document that accredits their Master's degree or equivalent.

 

Important: 

 

Registration will be formally communicated and gives the graduate an ordinary period of 2 years to develop and present the final work, with the documentation provided for in article 22 of the Regulations for Degrees and Titles of the UDEP Faculty of Law – Undergraduate, in the Academic Secretariat. for later support. During this period, the graduate will have exclusivity of the registered topic for its development.

 

The expiration of the ordinary deadline without having submitted the final work automatically expires the registration and the graduate will not be able to re-register the same work plan.

 

Once the request has been attended to, the graduate can request the Academic Secretary to carry out the process for his or her authorization as a user of the University Library.

Exceptionally, an extension of the ordinary deadline can be requested only for reasons that justify it. For this purpose, the graduate presents a application of extension explaining the reasons that justify the extension, to which the advisor's approval must be attached (Download format).

 

The application must be submitted during the three months prior to the expiration date of the ordinary term.

 

Directorate of Studies will evaluate the request. If appropriate, the extension will be granted based on the circumstances of the graduate and the opinion of the advisor. The extension may not be longer than 1 year. If not applicable, the registration period will automatically expire upon expiration of the ordinary period.

The undergraduate student of the Faculty of Law may present the work plan approved in the Research Methodology 2 (FMI2) course, for registration as a thesis topic to obtain the Law Degree. However, you will not be able to present the final work file to request a support date if you have not previously obtained the Bachelor's degree in Law or meet the other requirements for the Law Degree.

 

In the event that the work plan approved in the FMI course has been co-authored and one of the authors wishes to register a different work plan, they must attach their registration request to their registration request. written renunciation of authorship of the work plan approved in the FMI course (Download format).

A temporary suspension of the validity period of the registered topic may be requested for extraordinary reasons that justify it.

 

For this purpose, the graduate will present a request for temporary suspension of the deadline to the Directorate of Studies of the Faculty, with approval of the advisor, explaining the reasons that justify the suspension (Download format).

 

The application may only be submitted before six months prior to the expiration of the validity period of the registered topic.

 

The request will be evaluated by the Directorate of Studies, through the Director of Studies or the Degree Manager.

The graduate may freely modify his or her work plan when the modifications consist of a mere change in the title of the topic or in the order provided in the structure of the work, provided that the topic and the registered work plan are substantially the same.

 

In the case of other modifications, the graduating student must present a request for modification of the registered work plan (Download format), attaching the advisor's approval and explaining the changes proposed to the work plan.

 

The Directorate of Studies of the Faculty, through the Director of Studies or the Degree Manager, will agree to the request if it verifies that the proposed changes are related to the registered topic and do not resemble the work plan to another with current registration in the Registration of Final Works.

If the final work consists of a Thesis, it is possible to incorporate one or more graduates as co-authors of the final work during the validity of the registration of the work plan, provided that no more than 1 year of the ordinary term has elapsed and provided that the number total number of co-authors is not greater than 3.

 

For this purpose, it will be presented request for incorporation of co-author in registered work plan (Download format), the advisor's approval and the sworn declaration of authenticity of work in progress must be attached to that.

 

The Faculty's Studies Directorate, through the Director of Studies or the Degree Manager, will evaluate the application based on objective criteria.

 

Any of the co-authors of a registered work plan can request that you be removed as a co-author (Download format). The request will be approved by the Faculty's Studies Directorate, through the Director of Studies or the Degree Manager. Approval of the co-author's withdrawal causes him to lose all right to the content of the final work from whose plan he withdraws and prevents him from using it totally or partially in the registration or incorporation of another work plan in the Registry of Final Works.

 

If the final work consists of a Professional Sufficiency Work, the authorship is always sole.

The approval of the withdrawal of registration precludes the validity period of the work plan. Consequently, the subject of said registration becomes available to another graduate and the author or co-authors who requested the withdrawal of the registration are authorized to request, individually or in co-authorship, the registration of a work plan different from the one whose registration was withdrawal.

During the development of the final work, the graduate can request the relief of the advisor (Download format). The request will be approved by the Faculty's Studies Directorate, through the Director of Studies or the Degree Manager. The decision will be communicated to the graduating student and he or she will be required to request the appointment of a new advisor.

 

The final project advisor can give up in writing to their duties, indicating the reasons that justify the resignation and proposing a new advisor. The resignation will be evaluated by the Faculty's Studies Directorate. If the resignation is accepted, the decision will be communicated to the graduate and he or she will be required to request the appointment of a new advisor, either the one proposed by the advisor who resigned or another of the graduate's choice. If the resignation is not accepted, the advisor must continue to act as such.

 

If the professor designated as advisor cease to have a contractual relationship with the University of Piura, you must communicate this to the graduating student so that he or she can request the Faculty to designate a new advisor or approve the professor to continue advising the graduate's final work as an external professor. In the latter case, the graduate must present a request for approval for continuation of advice from an external professor (Download format).

 

In all cases of withdrawal of the advisor, the graduate can request a advisor reassignment (Download format).

The graduating student must take into account the Style Regulations contained in the Final Work Guidelines approved by the Library of the University of Piura.

 

In particular:

 

  • Citation format: APA, Chicago, Harvard, Vancouver, etc. can be used. The format you choose must be used throughout the work.
  • Font: Times New Roman throughout the work.
  • Font size: Font size: 12 points for the main text of the work. 11 points for page numbers. 10 points for footnotes, with a tab stop of 0.5 cm.

Within the period of validity of the registration of the work plan, the final work is sent to the Academic Secretariat or the body in charge that takes its place, accompanied by the following documents:

c. Copy of current National Identity Document.
d. Document in Word and PDF formats that contains the final work, the advisor's approval sheet and a summary of a maximum of 500 words prepared by the author according to the model and specifications provided on the website of the Library of the University of Piura. On page 2 of the work, the sworn declaration of authenticity mentioned in section f) of this provision must be inserted. In the PDF version of the work, the watermark with the coat of arms of the University of Piura must be inserted.

f. Sworn statement of authenticity and originality of the final work, signed by the graduate, the advisor and/or co-advisor, in the format indicated by the University (Download format).

j. If the final work contains data of legal entities, authorization to use the data.
k. Proof of payment for the corresponding academic right in case of payments made to banking entities or indication of the date and number of the operation in case of payment made to the University. Keep in mind that the payment amount is different for the Thesis modality and for the Professional Sufficiency Work modality. To consult costs, contact the Academic Secretary.
l. Passport size photograph, in color, on a white background.

If the study plan applicable to the graduate requires it for the Law Degree, attach the validation of pre-professional practices (six months of pre-professional practices in institutions recognized by the Faculty or one year in the Graduate Civil Service program – Secigra). The validation must be carried out according to the Procedure for Pre-Professional Practices of the Faculty of Law.
n. If the graduate did not study English or another foreign language or native language at the Language Center of the University of Piura, attach the certificates that accredit the level required by the Faculty, according to the study plan applicable to the graduate, to the Title of Lawyer.

The graduate must ensure that the Word and PDF versions of their final degree project comply with the Style Regulations contained in the Final Work Guidelines approved by the Library of the University of Piura

 

If, upon receipt of the graduate's final work file, the Faculty detects that there are three more violations of the aforementioned Style Regulations, the work will be returned to the graduate and the process of designating a support date will not begin until the approval has been made. corresponding correction.

 

If the graduate resubmits his final degree project in violation of the Regulations, the Faculty will return the work for the second and final time so that the corresponding correction can be made.

 

If the graduate sends his/her work with errors for the third time, the Faculty will return the work. In that case, the graduate will only be able to present the work after one month has passed, starting the review process again.

The final degree work (thesis or professional proficiency work) to obtain the Law Degree must be supported for evaluation. The support will be oral and public, before the academic community and before a jury that will determine the grade obtained.

 

The support date will always be established with a maximum margin of 10 business days from the date on which the Academic Secretariat processed the support request without observations to correct, unless the advisor proposes a date beyond the referred period.

 

As a general rule, no support dates will be scheduled from the last week of June to the second week of August and from the last week of November to the end of February.

 

The date for support will be communicated to the graduating student no less than 7 business days in advance.

 

Date reservations for support are prohibited.

 

In the event of suspension of the support act, for different reasons, a new support date may be scheduled within a period of no less than one month and no more than three months counted from the initial date of support, unless the advisor proposes a date. nearest.

 

The presentations scheduled for each week will be published in the media used by the Faculty.

After support, the Faculty begins the following process:

 

  1. Entry of the thesis to the Library: After supporting the thesis, the Faculty is responsible for sending the thesis and the formats requested by the library to the University repository. This area will carry out a review of the work and the attached documents and will indicate if it has observations. If there are observations, the Faculty will notify the graduate and he/she must correct them and send the corrected documents to the Faculty. The Faculty will send the documents to the library again for verification. When there are no observations, the Faculty may continue with the administrative process.
  2. Request for agreement to the Superior Council (CS): Process by which the Faculty requests the Higher Council to issue the corresponding agreement indicating the status of graduate of the person who has supported it. Superior Council sends the agreement to the Faculty so that the administrative process can continue.
  3. Request for issuance of the Graduate Diploma: Once the Faculty has the CS agreement, it will inform the graduate that they can submit the request for issuance of the corresponding Diploma. The Faculty will send the Degrees and Titles Office the necessary documents to request the issuance of the Diploma.

 

Note: The Degrees and Titles Office does not send the diplomas issued to the Faculty. Graduates must contact said area to find out the issuance status.
