Pediatric cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in childhood and adolescence, presenting unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges that require a specialized and multidisciplinary approach. During basic medical training, students have limited contact with pediatric oncology patients, hindering the early development of specific skills in this area.
The Clinical rotation in Pediatric Oncology This program aims to address this training need by allowing students to actively participate in outpatient and inpatient activities under the guidance of faculty and specialized professionals. Students will have the opportunity to become involved in comprehensive patient care, discuss real clinical cases, collaborate with professionals from various disciplines, and strengthen their clinical skills in a highly specialized environment.
- Acquire knowledge about the epidemiology of pediatric cancer in the country and early diagnosis.
- Acquire knowledge about the most common types of cancer in the pediatric population and their specific approaches.
- Develop practical clinical skills, including initial assessment, diagnostic procedures and management of oncological emergencies.
- Managing the psychosocial impact of diagnosis and treatment on pediatric palliative care patients and their families, and exploring the role of support services.
Students of the Professional School of Human Medicine who meet the following requirements:
- Having successfully completed the fifth year of studies.
- Have a cumulative index equal to or greater than 14.
- Understanding the epidemiology and risk factors of major pediatric cancers.
- Become familiar with the process of initial evaluation, early diagnosis and staging of a pediatric oncology patient.
- Participate in outpatient and inpatient activities, obtaining a complete medical history and performing physical examinations under supervision.
- Work with a team of highly qualified professionals and receive direct guidance from healthcare professionals specializing in pediatric oncology.
- Immerse yourself in a dynamic learning environment, where you will face a variety of pediatric oncology cases and clinical challenges that will enrich your academic training.
- Obtain a certificate of participation awarded by the Faculty of Human Medicine.
