The University of Piura

On November 28, 1964, Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer had a memorable meeting with professors at the “University of Navarra.” On that occasion he said: "I would like to give you a new dimension of the University of Navarra. We want it to form upright, clean, clear men who know how to defend and love the freedom of others. Navarra is a starting point and not a arrival. They call us from all over. And here we must train the teaching staff to do university work all over the world, to do things very seriously and at the same time with good humor." Four months later, a group of people - who later became the Association for the Development of University Education (ADEU) - organized and launched the University of Piura, under the impulse and guidance of Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer. .

Dr. Victor Morales Corrales

Dr. Víctor Morales Corrales, a surgeon from the National University of San Marcos and a Doctor of Medicine from Cayetano Heredia University, was part of the first faculty—comprised of nine professors—with which the University began its academic activities in April 1969. He served as the University's second Rector from 1977 to 1984. For over 40 years, he was a tenured professor of introductory science, particularly in the biomedical field, with an equally prominent role in the theory and development of university organization and planning. He founded the Department of Biomedical Sciences, the academic seed of the Faculty of Medicine project. Dr. Víctor Morales was a full member of the National Academy of Medicine, a distinction he held until his death on August 16, 2022.
