The Faculty of Human Medicine of the University of Piura, committed to the academic development of health professionals in Peru, launches this virtual course that aims to reinforce knowledge about Human Cytogenetics applied to the clinic.

This course is aimed at professionals and students of careers related to health sciences.

General knowledge of human genetics and/or prior knowledge of cytogenetics is required.

The main objective of the Human Cytogenetics workshop is to promote the study of chromosomes and learn about their clinical application for the diagnosis of various diseases such as congenital malformations detected prenatally or through constitutional studies, and support in the prognosis associated with hematological neoplasms and other types of cancer.

The proposal for this workshop will be developed synchronously in virtual format under the Zoom® platform.

It will consist of 8 theoretical sessions with a total of 17 hours, 7 practical sessions with a total of 7 hours.

Competencies

General competence:

  • At the end of the human cytogenetics workshop, the participant will have the ability to perform karyograms and karyotypes; and relate your finding to the respective clinic.

Specific competencies:

  • Consolidate specialized theoretical knowledge on human cytogenetics
  • Ability to give the correct nomenclature of a karyotype using the ISCN2020 instructions
  • Recognize, classify and order a karyogram
  • Solve real clinical cases using the Smart Type program.
