The course Humanization and Comfort: Nursing Tools in Palliative Care is theoretical-practical in nature and aims to develop skills in nursing professionals to provide comprehensive, humanized and person-centered care for those with advanced illness or at the end of life.
It is based on the palliative care approach promoted by the World Health Organization, prioritizing the relief of suffering, the promotion of comfort, and the preservation of human dignity. The course addresses clinical, communication, emotional, and ethical tools specific to nursing care, geared towards pain and symptom management, family support, and compassionate decision-making.
It promotes a practice based on therapeutic empathy, respect for patient autonomy, and the humanization of care as an essential axis of the professional practice of nursing.
Upon completion of the Humanization and Comfort: Nursing Tools in Palliative Care course, the participant will be able to:
- Understand the conceptual foundations and principles of humanizing care and palliative care according to international guidelines.
- To comprehensively assess the patient with advanced disease, considering the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions that influence their level of comfort and quality of life.
- Apply nursing tools for the assessment and management of pain and other common symptoms in palliative care.
- Implement nursing interventions aimed at promoting comfort, relieving suffering, and preserving the patient's dignity.
- Develop therapeutic communication skills to support the patient and their family during the illness process and end of life.
- Integrate ethical and bioethical principles into decision-making related to palliative care and humanized care.
