Faculty of Medicine

Training course: Arts and Humanities in Health Sciences

 The Program

The Arts and Humanities in Health Sciences course is fundamental for a well-rounded education in the health sciences, as it contributes to a deeper understanding of the human experience in professional practice. Its impact extends beyond the enjoyment and emotion that art generates, providing concrete benefits in the education and practice of medicine and other health disciplines.

Furthermore, integrating the arts and humanities into healthcare training allows participants to develop enhanced observation and interpretation skills, as well as strengthen essential abilities such as empathy, effective communication, and teamwork. These competencies are key to improving patient relationships and enriching professional practice.

In response to these needs, the Postgraduate and Continuing Education Unit of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Piura offers the Arts and Humanities in Health Sciences Course to those interested. This program aims to help participants recognize the importance of the humanities in their professional training, consolidate observation and critical analysis skills through the study of various art forms, and encourage reflection on the relationship between health sciences and the humanities.

Goals

Upon completion of the training process, the graduate is expected to acquire the following competencies:

  • Recognize the importance of the arts and humanities in the comprehensive training of health professionals.
  • Develop observation, critical analysis and empathy skills through the study of various art forms.
  • To encourage reflection on the relationship between health sciences and the humanities, and how these can improve practice in the health field.

    • Define a goal based on what was developed in the session
  3. Bi-weekly asynchronous videos (there will be a total of 3)
    • During the 2-week cycles, participants will have to watch a short, pre-recorded session and will have to answer a questionnaire to evaluate the activity.
