 The diploma

The course is designed to develop expertise in the area of headaches, geared towards neurologists and physicians in related specialties, with a particular focus on headaches and facial pain. It combines theoretical instruction with clinical practice discussions, including lectures, case studies, and participation in thematic forums.

This course is designed for neurologists and related specialists interested in headaches and facial pain. With a theoretical-clinical approach, it combines lectures, case studies, and discussion forums to strengthen decision-making in professional practice.

It covers the following topics, divided into six modules: Scientific basis, pathophysiological foundations, and international classification; Migraine, differential diagnosis, and pharmacological and non-pharmacological management; Other primary headaches, characterization, and approach to craniofacial pain; and Secondary headaches, identification of associated causes and warning signs. In addition, the Headache in Women and Special Populations module addresses considerations for pregnant women, children, and older adults; and Miscellaneous explores chronic headache, comorbidities, and new therapeutic challenges.

The diploma program develops skills to classify, diagnose, and treat headaches with clinical rigor and professional ethics. It also prioritizes the development of skills to recognize, classify, diagnose, and treat headaches according to international standards, promoting critical analysis applied to clinical cases and the preparation of a systematic review or publishable article, all while adhering to principles of medical ethics and academic rigor.

 Goals
  • To recognize, classify, diagnose, treat and make appropriate differential diagnoses of the different types of headaches considered in the third classification of the International Headache Society.
  • Apply the theoretical concepts learned in classes, forums and case discussions in a critical manner applied to the resolution of a specific clinical case in the area of headaches and facial pain.

 

Addressed to

Specialist doctors or residents who are in their final year of specialization in: Internal Medicine, Neurology, Anesthesia, Pain Medicine and Family Medicine.
