Every city has a museum, but often the impact and transformative potential they hold is overlooked. Nor is the variety of work they house and are capable of generating considered.
Thus, a museum without sound, holistic management that considers its audiences and how to reach them, as well as all the meanings inherent in the cultural assets it preserves, becomes an underutilized space for social transformation and the revitalization of tourism. How can this be changed?
In our country, many museums lack public engagement programs and fail to fulfill all the functions they are called upon to perform according to current museological perspectives. We also lack training in museum mediation. Therefore, we are launching our first diploma program, which aims to address two key aspects for the improved management of these emblematic institutions: audiences and collections, but also the diverse work of the museum: research, conservation, exhibitions, and education, with a focus on accessibility, inclusion, and, of course, digital innovation.
Therefore, this Diploma program takes into account the foundations of museum study and management, such as Museology and Museography, but also includes key aspects like cultural mediation, audience research, museum documentation, and related legislation. Thus, students in this program will gain a comprehensive and updated perspective on how to manage their museums, always keeping in mind who they are made of: their visitors.
