Bioinformatics Internship Rotation - UTEC

PresentationSpecsTeachersInvestmentPostulation

 The rotation

Completing an internship in bioengineering and bioinformatics offers medical students a formative experience focused on the analysis of biological data, computational modeling, and the use of digital tools applied to health.

At UTEC, this experience allows students to train for the medicine of the future: learning to integrate biological and clinical data to understand diseases, improve diagnostic processes, and contribute to biomedical research. This internship strengthens skills that make a difference today when applying for residencies, participating in research projects, or working in clinical settings with an advanced technological focus.

 Goals
  • To develop in the student competences in the use of biological and bioinformatics tools applied to the clinical and non-clinical field, in order to acquire skills in the search, collection, processing and interpretation of patient data for the generation of medical studies.

Addressed to

Students of the Professional School of Human Medicine who meet the following requirements:

  • Having successfully completed the third year of studies.
  • Have a cumulative index equal to or greater than 14.
  • With knowledge of basic programming concepts.
  • Have a valid enrollment in the 2025-II academic period.

Benefits
  • Learning to interpret biological data using computational tools.
  • Understanding the interdisciplinary approach of bioinformatics which brings together engineers, scientists, and healthcare professionals.
  • Develop quantitative thinking for the resolution of medical problems.
  • Receive a certificate of participation, awarded by the Faculty of Human Medicine of the University of Piura, which accredits the training experience.

Modality
  • In person

Headquarters

The rotation will take place at the Bioengineering Research Center of the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC), a center renowned for its interdisciplinary approach and for fostering innovative solutions in science and technology. The center boasts a strong research focus in bioinformatics and quantitative medicine, where engineers, scientists, and healthcare professionals collaborate to address biomedical problems using advanced computational tools.

In this environment, students will have access to specialized laboratories, ongoing projects, and cutting-edge methodologies that characterize UTEC as one of the leading institutions in applied research and technological training in the country.

Duration and schedule
  • The internship will take place from February 2nd to 20th, 2026.
  • The schedule for carrying out activities is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Available places
  • 8 seats

Teachers

Franco Huaccha Cáceres

Biologist

Biologist from the National University of Trujillo (UNT). Postgraduate candidate in Molecular Biology at the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) and at the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC).

Specialist in 3D breast cancer modeling, with an emphasis on tumor microenvironment and metastasis. Her work integrates tissue engineering, bioink optimization, and transcriptomic analysis using databases such as TCGA, GTEx, GEO, and METABRIC.

It combines wet experimentation and bioinformatics analysis for the development of predictive models applied to human breast cancer.

Participation in the internship is free of charge.
