- Rotation at Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital
A rotation in the emergency department provides an essential clinical environment for the comprehensive training of medical students, as it allows for the development of clinical, ethical, and communication skills in a dynamic and demanding setting that requires immediate decision-making. This context fosters the strengthening of critical analysis skills, clinical reasoning, interdisciplinary teamwork, and effective communication with patients and their families.
The rotation also helps students understand the organization of the healthcare system and the functioning of triage, referral and counter-referral processes, as well as the importance of collaborative work.
Completing a rotation in the emergency department at Almenara Hospital provides medical students with a training environment where they can apply and integrate their clinical knowledge in real emergency situations under the supervision of qualified specialist physicians. This environment allows them to strengthen essential skills such as initial patient assessment, rapid decision-making, medical emergency management, and prioritization according to severity levels; in other words, they begin to recognize the importance of triage.
The practical course in Emergency Medicine will be held in the Emergency Department of the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital. Its objective is to provide medical students with intensive practical training in the recognition and initial management of the most relevant acute medical conditions encountered in emergency services. Through a clinical approach, the course aims to strengthen the skills necessary to act safely and effectively in emergency situations, respecting ethical principles and maintaining a patient-centered approach.
