General Surgery is a medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis, surgical treatment and follow-up of diseases that require manual or instrumental intervention in different regions of the body.
The rotation at the Naval Medical Center “Surgeon Major Santiago Távara” (CEMENA) offers an enriching experience in a highly complex hospital environment, where they will have the opportunity to access specialized areas such as transplant units and other surgical subspecialties, thus expanding their experience beyond the regular course.
This rotation is designed for students interested in strengthening their surgical profile, allowing them to participate in outpatient consultations, inpatient care, and the operating room, under the guidance of faculty and specialized professionals. Students will be able to engage in comprehensive patient care, discuss real clinical cases, and develop technical and clinical skills in a highly specialized surgical environment.
- Cto understand the comprehensive clinical-surgical approach of hospitalized and outpatient patients, under the guidance of specialists from the service.
- Identify and analyze the fundamental clinical aspects of the main surgical pathologies, strengthening clinical reasoning and decision-making ability.
- Explore and compare differential diagnoses in common surgical cases, applying clinical, surgical and diagnostic support criteria.
- Integrate into multidisciplinary health teams, collaborating with specialists from different areas in the comprehensive care of the surgical patient.
Students of the Professional School of Human Medicine who meet the following requirements:
- Having successfully completed the Surgery I course.
- Have a cumulative index equal to or greater than 14.
- Have a valid enrollment in the 2025-II academic period.
- Access to a highly complex surgical environment, which provides a broad and educational view of surgical practice.
- Intensive practical and observational learning, which strengthens the understanding of clinical-surgical processes and operating room safety standards.
- Interaction with highly qualified professionals, in an environment that promotes excellence, ethics, and continuous learning.
- Participation in a multidisciplinary and collaborative team, understanding the interaction between surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other specialists.
- Developing a network of professional contacts, enhancing future training and collaboration opportunities.
- At the end, the participant will receive a certificate of participation granted by the Faculty of Human Medicine of the University of Piura.

The rotation will take place in the General Surgery Service of the Naval Medical Center “Surgeon Major Santiago Távara” (CMST), also known as the Naval Hospital of Peru.
Officially inaugurated on July 4, 1956, with the purpose of providing comprehensive and excellent medical care to the personnel of the Peruvian Navy and the community at large. Since then, it has established itself as a leading healthcare institution, recognized for its commitment to quality, innovation, and continuing education.
Located in Bellavista, Callao, the CMST is a tertiary healthcare facility with approximately 506 beds, including intensive care units (ICUs). Its General Surgery Service is part of the Navy Health Directorate (DISAMAR) healthcare system and shares workspaces with various surgical specialties, such as head and neck, plastic, thoracic, and cardiovascular surgery, among others, allowing for a comprehensive and highly complex training experience.
- The clinical rotation will take place from January 5th to 30th, 2026.
- Hours: Monday to Friday (except holidays), from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm.

- Dr. Miguel Rojas Armas
Medical specialist in General Surgery from the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM). Currently works in the General Surgery Service and the Transplant Unit of the Naval Medical Center “Surgeon Major Santiago Távara” (CMST).
He is a professor at the Faculty of Human Medicine of the University of Piura (UDEP) and has a solid track record in the surgical and academic field.

The application, selection and acceptance process will take place on the following dates.
- Document and application reception: Until November 17, 2025.
- File evaluation and interviews: From November 18 to 21, 2025.
- Publication of accepted students: November 21, 2025.
- Delivery of commitment to accept the vacancy: Until November 25, 2025.

The application must include the following mandatory documents:
- Application form for the student mobility program, with the applicant student's data
- Cover letter, addressed to the Director of the Professional School of Human Medicine, indicating the student's personal data and a brief explanation of the reasons that led him to apply to the Student Mobility Program.
- Curriculum vitae of the applicant, undocumented (maximum 2 pages).
- Academic record or certificate that proves the required cumulative index.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring the truthfulness and authenticity of the data and documents submitted.
Applications submitted after the deadline or that do not meet all the required criteria will not be accepted.
The selection process is the responsibility of the Evaluation Committee, and consists of two phases:
- First phase
Evaluation of the submitted documentation and the qualification of the candidates. - Second phase
Interviews with applicants.
The evaluation considers the student's motivation, academic trajectory, plans during the mobility period, and adaptability to optimize their experience in the program.
The results of the call will be communicated through your institutional emails.

- Health certificate that certifies good physical and mental health.
- Simple copy of Valid and current National Identity Document.
- Simple copy of valid health insurance.
- Simple copy of Complete vaccination record, According to the Vaccination Protocol Guidelines of the Faculty of Human Medicine, it must necessarily include complete vaccinations against hepatitis, diphtheria, tetanus, influenza, and COVID-19, according to current regulations.
- Proof of payment.
Students who leave the Student Mobility Program without justification, after being evaluated and accepted, will be excluded without the possibility of participating in future calls, and may be subject to a penalty, depending on the call.
Offenses during the application process or during the validity of student mobility will be sanctioned in accordance with the Regulations of Disciplinary Measures for students of the University of Piura.
