 The rotation

General surgery is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and comprehensive follow-up of diseases affecting various organs and systems. In medical student training, exposure to real surgical scenarios is essential for developing clinical judgment, technical skills, and decision-making abilities in complex situations.

In this context, the rotation in the Cemena This represents a high-value training opportunity. It is a tertiary-level healthcare center with approximately 506 beds and intensive care units (ICUs), which concentrates specialized care and highly complex procedures, including programs such as organ transplantation. The Department of General Surgery interacts continuously with other surgical specialties—head and neck surgery, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, and pediatric oncology, among others—creating a comprehensive and highly specialized healthcare environment.

This context allows students, particularly those with a greater interest in the surgical field, to actively participate in outpatient consultations, hospitalization, and operating room activities, always under faculty supervision. Throughout the rotation, they become integrated into the comprehensive care of surgical patients, analyze real clinical cases, collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, and strengthen their clinical and professional skills in a demanding academic and healthcare environment.

Thus, the experience in the Cemena It not only complements the basic surgical training received at UDEP, but also broadens the student's educational horizon by placing them in a scenario of greater complexity and specialization.
