The program

Documentary heritage is one of the fundamental pillars for preserving the historical, cultural, and scientific memory of societies. Heritage libraries, historical archives, and documentation centers safeguard unique collections that allow us to understand historical processes, strengthen cultural identities, and generate new knowledge. However, in Latin America, significant challenges persist regarding the management, conservation, digitization, and dissemination of these materials, especially due to the limited availability of specialized training, the effects of climate change on documentary media, budget constraints, and the increasing demands arising from digital transformation.

In response to this situation, the program offers comprehensive training focused on strengthening professional skills for the management, conservation, digital preservation, and dissemination of documentary heritage. Through a specialized academic approach, participants will develop theoretical and practical knowledge that will enable them to understand the technical, administrative, legal, and cultural processes involved in the management of libraries and archives with heritage value. The program combines a solid foundation in documentation, heritage legislation, preventive conservation, digital preservation, and cultural mediation with two specialization tracks that allow for in-depth study of the management of heritage libraries or heritage archives.

At the end of the program, participants will be trained to manage heritage documentary collections, design preventive conservation and digital preservation strategies, implement dissemination and cultural mediation actions, understand the regulatory framework applicable to documentary heritage, and develop projects aimed at the protection, enhancement, and sustainable access to these collections.
