Diploma in Education through Art

Presentation

In today's highly visual society, the way children and young people learn and perceive the world has been transformed. Furthermore, the constant use of a highly visual culture has created a demand for new skills that allow them—and adults—to understand and interact with this world. These transformations place a high value on the types of skills that can be developed through art and, therefore, suggest that the arts should be strengthened in education—or integrated into other educational contexts—to ensure that everyone involved is culturally enriched and competitive in our visual age. However, in Peruvian society and education, arts education is undervalued.

The Diploma in Arts Education aims to reverse this situation and explore the many roles that art can play in educational settings—both inside and outside the classroom—and for students of all ages. It will develop analytical skills and reflective practices, forging powerful creative partnerships and exploring the relationship of the arts with other areas of education.

Participants will be able to exchange learning spaces with national and international teachers, and obtain a complementary qualification that allows them to work in various work environments, such as educational centers, museums and cultural centers, the tourism sector, among others.

Goals

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Understanding the theoretical and pedagogical foundations of education through art and its relationship with contemporary educational processes.
  • Analyze the role of the arts in the cognitive, emotional, social and cultural development of different populations and educational contexts.
  • Applying art education methodologies and strategies in the design of innovative and inclusive learning experiences.
  • Design interdisciplinary educational proposals that integrate the arts in school, cultural and community contexts.
  • Evaluate experiences and projects related to art education, museum education and cultural mediation from a critical and reflective perspective.
  • Develop educational initiatives that promote creativity, cultural sensitivity, inclusion, and social transformation through the arts.
