About the program

The specialization program in medical liability is an academic proposal designed for lawyers and health professionals seeking to update and complement their professional practice.

To this end, a curriculum has been designed that offers a comprehensive overview of the main legal and bio-legal criteria applicable to the field of medical practice in both the private and public sectors. In this regard, topics related to the physician's professional standards (lex artis) and the civil, criminal, and administrative liability that may arise in the event of a breach of professional duty are addressed.

Therefore, the program offered thoroughly analyzes the different areas and actors within the health sector. Furthermore, the analysis is approached from the perspective of comparative law and international regulations.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Promote practical knowledge of the legal requirements of medical practice.

  • Review the regulatory requirements in the bio-legal field of the doctor-patient relationship as a constitutive part of the lex artis.
  • To promote the interdisciplinary legal development of the study of the responsibility of health professionals.
  • Analyze comparative jurisprudence in the field of medical liability.
  • To enhance argumentation skills in lawyers specializing in medical liability, by analyzing national and foreign jurisprudence.

Teaching methodology

The medical liability course will have a theoretical-practical approach, combining lectures with analysis of national and international case law. The case study technique will be applied in the relevant modules.

*Recorded sessions will not be given to participants, except in cases of absence duly justified by unforeseen circumstances or force majeure.

Modality

The program will be conducted in person, two days a week at the Miraflores-Lima campus, which will promote networking among the attendees.

Students will have 24/7 access to the Udep Virtual platform, where they can find the reading materials sent by their instructors. The platform will only be available until the end of the program.

We also offer an online option for participants located outside of Lima. Please note that classes will be broadcast via Zoom from the classroom on the university campus, allowing for active participation with the other attendees.

Certification

The program consists of 90 academic hours.

The digital certificate in the name of UDEP will indicate: Certificate awarded to the student “Names and Surnames” for having passed with a grade XX the Medical Responsibility specialization program, carried out in person (or online) from September 8 to November 26, 2026*, equivalent to 90 academic hours.

The certificate of completion is awarded provided the participant passes the program, has no outstanding debt with the university, and meets the 80% attendance requirement.

If you do not pass the program and have no debt with the university, you will be awarded a certificate for having participated.

The certificates will be sent to the participants' email addresses in February 2027.
