Law in the face of the challenges of the new sustainable development agenda
The Faculty of Law at the University of Piura, following its academic tradition, has organized the Public Law Convention for the past 10 years. This academic forum provides a space for law students and professionals to analyze topics of current legal interest. This year, the Convention's theme is "Law in the face of the challenges of the new sustainable development agenda," with a special emphasis on Sustainable Development Goal 16, which focuses on "Peace, justice and strong institutions.".
In recent years, the world has witnessed violent conflicts that derail the path to peace and justice. Citizen insecurity, corruption, crime, and violence in all its forms have devastating consequences for a country's development and seriously undermine the rule of law. Therefore, governments, civil society, and communities must work together to find effective and lasting solutions to the climate of insecurity and conflict. Undoubtedly, strengthening the rule of law and the family, as the basic institution of society, will be fundamental to this process. Building peaceful societies and ensuring access to justice for all, particularly the most vulnerable sectors, as well as creating strong, effective, and accountable institutions, is not an unattainable goal.
In this scenario, the X Public Law Convention and V Private Law Convention have as their main purpose to promote the development of research processes in legal science, bringing together undergraduate students, graduates, lawyers and other interested public to comment, analyze and discuss the role of Law in the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 16: “Peace, justice and strong institutions”.
In this 2025 edition, law students from public and private universities across the country will have the opportunity to submit a short research paper on a topic of their interest related to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. The best papers will be selected and published in the Convention's proceedings, in the Miscellaneous section. This will undoubtedly be a great opportunity for law students who wish to begin their research careers and share their work with the legal community.
The document should be 5 pages long and the formal specifications can be found in the attached format. We expect the book to be available on September 19th. Therefore, the deadline for submitting the text will be May 19th.
