Diploma in Peruvian Art History

Dr. Ricardo Estabridis

He holds a PhD in Art History, with studies at the National University of San Marcos, the University of Seville, and the UNED in Madrid. He taught at UNMSM and PUC from 1986 to 2022.

During his professional career at San Marcos, he has held various positions, including Director of the Art Museum. At the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, he has served as Director of the Professional School of Art, Director of the Research Unit, and Director of the Professional School of Conservation and Restoration, a school he conceived and helped establish in 2011. He has been named Professor Emeritus of the National University of San Marcos.

Dr. Javier Gómez Sánchez

A graduate of the Complutense University of Madrid, he holds a PhD in Archaeology and History (2017) and a Master's degree in History and Anthropology of the Americas (2012). He has taught pre-Hispanic and colonial Peruvian history at the Sacred Heart Women's University and contemporary world history at the Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University. He currently teaches history at the University of Piura. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Communication, Culture, and Identity research team at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Eloy Alfaro Lay University of Manabí, Ecuador.

Dr. César Astuhuamán

She studied Archaeology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the National University of San Marcos (1998), Peru. She then obtained a PhD in Philosophy from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London (2008), England. She is currently writing a book about Aypate, the Inca center in Piura. Between 2001 and 2023, she was a professor in the Department of Archaeology at the National University of San Marcos, where she taught courses on pre-Hispanic architecture, landscapes, and territories (at both the undergraduate and graduate levels).

Dr. Víctor Velezmoro Montes

PhD in Art History from the University of Seville (Spain). Bachelor of Arts from the National University of San Marcos (Lima). Postgraduate studies in University Teaching, Public Policy, and Cultural Communication. Professor in the Department of History and Art at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Piura (since 1998). He teaches history, Peruvian and world art history, and visual culture. Specialist in the graphic work of the chronicler Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala (16th century). He is currently researching urban and artistic phenomena and their relationship to economic and cultural processes in the Piura Region.

Dr. Pablo Sebastián Lozano

Professor of History and Art at the University of Piura. He holds a PhD in Art History from the University of Valencia (Spain) for his dissertation, "Epistolary Relationship between the Painters Ricardo Flórez and Felipe Cossío: Two Processes of Estrangement in Contemporary Peruvian Painting." He has served as Vice Dean of Research at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Piura and as Director of the Department of History and Art at the same institution.

Dr. Cristina Vargas Pacheco

She holds a Master's degree in Art History and Heritage from the University of Bordeaux and a Master's degree in Museology from the École du Louvre (France). She completed a diploma in Museology and Museography at the National University of San Marcos (Peru). She is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Tourism at the San Martín de Porres University (Peru). She is a lawyer, having graduated from the University of Piura. She currently teaches in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Piura (Piura). Her research focuses on museological topics, and she is a member of various associations related to museology and curatorship.

Ms. María Alejandra Puruguay

A historian and cultural manager with a degree from the University of Piura, she has extensive experience directing and implementing cultural and educational projects in both the public and private sectors. She holds a Master's degree in Public Management from San Martín de Porres University and a Master's degree in Public Management from EUCIM Business School. Among the cultural projects she has developed are "Trujillo Bicentennial – Exhibition of Visual Arts and Heritage Education," which earned her the 2021 LLAMA National Curatorial Award, and the project "Interpreters of Chan Chan, Cradle of the Chimú Kingdom," selected for the 2013 Patrimonito Program of the UNESCO World Heritage Volunteer Center. Currently, she is the director of the Academic Program in History and Cultural Management at the University of Piura and president of CLÍO Culture and Citizenship. She has also collaborated with various public institutions, such as the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, contributing her expertise in heritage and cultural management.
