Diploma in Peruvian Art History

The program

The Diploma in Peruvian Art History (blended learning format) aims to provide tools for understanding and analyzing the diverse artistic expressions within Peruvian history, from pre-Hispanic times to the end of the 20th century. In this sense, the Diploma seeks to be a guide for the discovery—or rediscovery—of our national art history.

Through asynchronous master classes, reading materials, and study trips, the invited art historians will address, from the perspective of their areas of specialization and research, different themes from which they will delve into those historical-artistic events that can be considered milestones in the knowledge of the history of Peruvian art, without which it is impossible to understand it.

The objective of this diploma program is to provide students with the historiographical and critical foundations for understanding the development of artistic expression in Peru from its origins to the avant-garde movements of the 20th century. The course is aimed at social science researchers, professors, cultural managers, university students, and the general public interested in the history of Peruvian art.

Upon completion, participants will receive a Diploma in Peruvian Art History from the University of Piura, strengthening their professional profile and setting them apart in the job market. With its flexible format and practical focus, thanks to the two guided tours included in the program, this diploma course is the ideal opportunity for those seeking to update their knowledge of Peruvian art history and make a significant impact within their institutions.

Goals
  • To provide the student with the historiographical and critical foundations on the development of artistic manifestations in Peru from their origins to the avant-garde movements of the 20th century.

  • Analyze and critique representative works of art from different eras in Peru.
  • To make value judgments about works of art within their locality through produced texts.
Methodology and modality

The diploma program's methodology combines theory and practice: each course includes three weeks of asynchronous online work with materials available throughout the program, and a fourth week with a synchronous session to answer questions and evaluate assignments. Elective courses have limited spaces, so early registration is required. The program also includes two guided study visits led by a specialist to connect artistic experience with the course content.

The diploma program is offered in a blended learning format, with both online and in-person sessions. The in-person component will consist of two guided museum visits. The online sessions will be asynchronous, with one synchronous session per course.
