In recent years, the production of publications in various formats has increased considerably: books, magazines, newspapers, and also web pages; however, many of these works lack discursive and linguistic quality, making the presence of a professional in charge of quality control that the text needs a priority, in order to benefit both the author and the reader.
The work of proofreaders today is not only relevant to publishers and media outlets, but also to government institutions, advertising agencies, and other information-producing entities. Indeed, proofreading is a crucial stage in the publishing process, as it guarantees the quality of the text to be published. The proofreader's task is not only to prevent typos or spelling mistakes; their job is to ensure grammatical structure and coherence, as well as to guarantee that the author's message is effectively conveyed. Furthermore, thanks to digitalization, proofreading has become a remote job, allowing this profession to be practiced regardless of geographical location.
For this reason, recognizing the importance of professionalization, the University of Piura and the Association of Text Correctors of Peru (Ascot-Peru) have deemed it appropriate to organize this III Official Diploma in Text Regulations and Correction.
With this III diplomat Official in Regulations and Text Correction The intention is to:
- Provide a supported academic certification that allows correctors to be accredited as such before the Peruvian State, and other institutions and organizations.
- Provide and reinforce the theoretical knowledge that serves as a basis for the work of text correction.
- Introduce students to the practical application of the bases of text correction, establishing criteria based on the experiences of professionals who are dedicated to correction and know the editing process from within, as well as the procedures necessary to achieve a quality text ready for publication.
- Put the student in contact with real situations that will allow them not only to practice what they have learned, but, at the same time, train themselves in the exercise of their creativity to solve problems or gaps, and adapt their work according to the various styles.
- Lay the foundations for specialization among proofreading professionals.
