The University of Piura promotes and disseminates research in all fields, starting with those linked to the promotion of quality of life.

The Vice-Rectorate for Research is responsible for managing research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) at the University of Piura, coordinating actions within the university community, designing strategies, promoting policies, and managing funding for R&D&I development.

Marcos Agurto Adrianzén

Vice-rector for research

He holds a Ph.D. and Master's degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia (Canada). He is a researcher specializing in economic development, education, experimental and behavioral economics, and impact evaluation. Since 2018, he has mentored financial inclusion projects in Africa for the Partnership for Economic Policy. He is a member of the Lima School of Economics and Director of the Lima Summer School in Economics.

Carlos Arrizabalaga

Publications Director

Professor with a background in Spanish dialectology, linguistic historiography, and lexicography. He specializes in Northern Peruvian studies, with research that considers the characteristics of regional speech and its relationship to northern history and society. He currently researches 19th-century travelers in Peru and the effects of language contact on the lexicon.

Carlos Rodrich

General Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center HUB UDEP

Master's degree from the Universidad del Pacífico. Former deputy director of ProInnóvate Perú, a program affiliated with the Ministry of Production. He has held fellowships in innovation programs in Israel, Korea, and Japan. He has more than 15 years of experience in management and leadership positions at companies such as Bayer, Nissan, Olympus, and Groupon.

Miguel Ángel Carpio

Director of Research for Social Sciences and Humanities

He holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Economics from Pompeu Fabra University, Spain. He specializes in applied microeconomics, with an emphasis on development economics and household finance. His research uses impact evaluation methods to study health policies, access to credit, and the long-term effects of colonial institutions in Peru. His work has been published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Public Economics and The Journal of Economic History. He is a three-time winner of the Economic and Social Research Consortium's Annual Research Competition.
