Agreements

Recently, the University of Piura (UDEP)) established two agreements with The University of Queensland (UQ): of transfer and double degree with the title of Bachelor of Sciences in Economics.

These agreements allow students in the Economics program at the Lima Campus to be part of the UQ university community in Brisbane, Australia. Students who have completed coursework up to the fifth semester are eligible for the transfer, and students who have completed coursework up to the ninth semester, including the research project, are eligible for the dual degree.

Requirements for transfer

  • To have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum of the UDEP Economics academic program up to the fifth semester (taking into account that some procedures may take time, the application must be made before; UQ will give a conditional admission until the student completes the courses up to the fifth semester).
  • To have a cumulative index equal to or greater than 12.5 at the time of application.
  • Proof of English proficiency (valid tests up to 2 years old before starting classes at UQ): TOEFL at least 87 (Writing out of 21 and the other areas out of 19), IELTS A minimum of 6.5 and 6.0 in each subsection, Cambridge English Scale (CES) out of 176 with a minimum of 169 in each skill.   • Not having had no serious disciplinary sanction during his studies at UDEP.
  • Have no outstanding debts with UDEP.
  • The application It must be completed before the end of the fifth cycle, provided they have met the academic and English level requirements.

Transfer process

  • Approach the UDEP Academic Program Directorate of Economics to certify that you meet the stated requirements.

  • Inform the UDEP Economics Program after applying.
  • UQ will evaluate your application. If successful, UQ will send you a conditional offer. If you have already met the English language requirement and the minimum required average, You will be eligible to apply for conditional enrollment confirmation. You should consult with a UQ agent before proceeding. Once the offer is accepted, you can proceed to pay the required deposit along with the Overseas Student Health Insurance (OSHC) payment for Australia.  With conditional enrollment confirmation , You can start your visa application for Australia.
  • If you have not completed the English requirements at the time of application, You will not be eligible for conditional enrollment confirmation, which could delay your start in Brisbane.
  • Once the visa is obtained, the student will be able to enroll at UQ and begin their studies at that university.

UQ has two start dates during the year:

Students wishing to begin their studies at UQ in July must submit their application before [date missing]. March 15.

Students wishing to begin their studies at UQ in February must submit their application before [date missing]. September 15th (from the previous year).

Pass the courses from cycles I to V, and have a cumulative index of at least 12.5.

An international baccalaureate is not required to access the agreement.

With your fifth-semester enrollment document and official transcript up to the fourth semester, you can begin the UQ application process. Upon successful completion of the fifth semester, you must update your transcript up to the fifth semester of studies.

 

UQ will require your grades from the last semester you completed at UDEP to confirm the course validation (credit transfer) at UQ. This transcript must also be officially issued by UDEP, certified, and accompanied by an official English translation sent to UQ. You can complete this process through LAE.

After the fifth semester at UDEP and thanks to the agreement with UQ, you will have 4 semesters left to obtain your Bachelor of Science in Economics at UQ.

This agreement allows your Economics studies at UDEP to be validated as years of study at UQ. To transfer, you must take the courses corresponding to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th semesters of the 2020 curriculum for the Economics Program at UDEP.

Yes, but you must still meet all the required criteria. Please note that once your transfer to UQ is confirmed, you will become a UDEP alumnus and will no longer be a Pronabec scholarship recipient. Furthermore, you should consult with Pronabec regarding the implications of transferring to a foreign university.

No. If you have successfully completed the courses corresponding to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the curriculum of the Economics academic program at UDEP, you can apply.

As long as you are a UDEP student, have successfully completed the courses in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th semesters of the Economics program curriculum, and have met the stated requirements, you can apply. However, you might be interested in the dual degree option offered through this agreement with UQ.

No. This agreement is exclusively for regular UDEP students.

However, you might consider UQ for a master's degree if you want to pursue postgraduate studies at one of the top 50 universities in the world.

Students accepted to transfer to UQ must inform the academic program and approach the Academic Secretariat to request their voluntary withdrawal, thereby obtaining the status of alumni. 

Students who transfer are expected to successfully complete their degree at UQ. After transferring to UQ, you will have the status of a UDEP alumnus. If, due to emergency circumstances, you must leave UQ and return to Peru to complete your studies, you may request exceptional readmission to the Economics program at UDEP, which will be subject to evaluation.

Once you are admitted to UQ, LAE, a registered UQ education agent, will guide you through the process of obtaining your student visa from the Australian Embassy. The student must apply directly.

You will obtain a Bachelor of Economics degree. You can access a major, depending on the courses you take at UQ (for this, you must study at least 2 years at that university).

Upon completion of your program in The University of Queensland (2 years completed), you may be eligible to apply for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) – Post-Higher Education Work stream through the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

With this visa, you can stay in Australia for two to three years after completing your studies, and you can travel, work, or study during your stay. However, you will need to find your own employment while on this visa.

Requirements to obtain a Double Degree

  • Have successfully completed All courses in the curriculum of the Economics academic program at UDEP up to the ninth semester (note that the application must begin before then). It is necessary to have passed the research work course (so you will have to take it early).
  • To have a cumulative index equal to or greater than 12.5 at the time of application.

Process for Double Degree

  • It is preferable to approach the Academic Program Directorate of Economics at UDEP in the 7th semester to communicate the decision to access the double degree (it will be necessary to advance the research methodology course in the 8th semester and the research work in the 9th semester), and certify that you meet the indicated requirements.

  • Inform the UDEP Economics academic program after applying.
  • UQ will evaluate your application. If successful, UQ will send you a conditional offer. If you have already met the English language requirement and the minimum required average, You will be eligible to apply for conditional enrollment confirmation. You should consult with a UQ agent before proceeding.
