INVITATION/INVITACIÓN(2 pages/páginas, in English y Español) Santiago de Chile, July 2004 Dear Researcher, The Southern Pacific University Network (RUPSUR) invites you to participate in the RUPSUR Third Meeting "Biophysical and Socioeconomic Impacts of ENSO on Marine and Terrestrial Ecosystems” (http: // www.udep.edu.pe/rupsur/). This meeting will take place in Santiago de Chile November 11-12, 2004, Hotel Tarapacá, (40 Vecinal Street, Las Condes, Santiago). RUPSUR is conformed by researchers from Universities in Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru, and the meeting is open to all those who are interested in studying El Niño/La Niña impacts. The meeting will develop around, but will not be limited to the following thematic areas:
The Scientific Committee will select works to be presented orally or as posters. Extended abstracts of selected works will be published in the meeting´s proceedings. The deadline for submitting abstracts is September 30, 2004 and should be sent to rupsur2004@yahoo.es. It must contain the author´s contact information (i.e., name of author(s), institution, mailing and electronic address). Abstracts can be submitted in Spanish, Portuguese, or English. The meeting, however, will not provide translation service. Based on scientific merit and fund availability, the Scientific Committee will provide partial aid to cover air tickets and/or lodging for the author or one of the authors. The III Meeting is sponsored by the University of Chile (temporary host of RUPSUR’s Presidency and Executive Secretariat), the International Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change Programme (IHDP), the Interamerican Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), and the Department for the Environment of Chile’s Foreign Affairs Ministry. This meeting will take place right after the IAI’s Scientific Committee meeting that will be held in Santiago November 9-10, 2004. There is no registration fee, though you must register (via email). We are looking forward to seeing you in Santiago to share with us this exciting opportunity to exchange experiences and scientific findings. Versión en Español Estimado(a) investigador(a): La Red Universitaria del Pacífico Sur (RUPSUR) tiene el agrado de invitar a Ud. a participar en el III Encuentro RUPSUR “Impactos Biofísicos y Socioeconómicos de El Niño en Ecosistemas Marinos y Terrestres” (http://www.udep.edu.pe/rupsur/) a realizarse en Santiago de Chile entre el 11 y 12 de Noviembre de 2004, en los salones del Hotel Tarapacá, ubicado en la calle Vecinal Nº 40, comuna de Las Condes, Santiago. RUPSUR está conformada por investigadores de Universidades de Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, y Perú, pero la reunión está abierta a todos aquellos que se interesan en investigar los impactos de El Niño/La Niña. La reunión se desarrollará en torno a, pero no está limitada a las siguientes áreas temáticas:
El Comité Científico seleccionará trabajos para ser presentados en forma oral o como posters. Los resúmenes extendidos de los trabajos aprobados se publicarán en las actas del simposio. La fecha límite para la recepción de resúmenes es el 30 de Septiembre del 2004 y deben ser enviados a rupsur2004@yahoo.es. El formato de los resúmenes será Times New Roman 12, doble espacio, máximo 500 palabras. Debe contener: objetivos de la investigación, método empleado, y los resultados obtenidos (o preliminares). El idioma podrá ser castellano, portugués e inglés. Sin embargo, la reunión no contará con servicio de traducción simultánea. Los resúmenes deben contener la identificación del o los autores e información de contacto (dirección física y electrónica, institución a la que pertenece). A través del Comité Científico se otorgarán, según mérito científico y disponibilidad de recursos, ayuda financiera para gastos de traslado y/o estadía para el autor o uno de los autores del trabajo. El III Encuentro cuenta con el patrocinio de la Universidad de Chile (sede temporal de la Presidencia y la Secretaría Ejecutiva de RUPSUR), del International Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change Programme (IHDP), del Instituto Interamericano de Estudios sobre Cambio Global (IAI), y del Departamento de Medio Ambiente del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile. Este encuentro se realizará a continuación de la reunión del Comité Científico del IAI, que se realizará en Santiago entre el 9 y 10 de Noviembre del 2004. No existe ningun precio por matricula en el tercer encuentro RUPSUR, usted debe inscribirse via e-mail.
